FINLANDS SVENSKA SÅNG- OCH MUSIKFÖRBUND - FSSMF
FSSMF stands for The Federation of Swedish Amateur Choirs and Orchestras in Finland. It is the national organization for Swedish speaking Finns who share an interest in music and who participate in choirs, orchestras and other musical groups in the Swedish speaking areas in Finland.
FSSMF has regional associations and branch organizations as members, with a total amount of individual members numbering up to 14 000. The branch organizations represent male choirs, female choirs, mixed choirs, children's and youth choirs and musical ensembles. The regional organizations represent their respective regions musical ensembles.
The main tasks of the FSSMF are:
- to arrange courses and training for choir and orchestra leaders and conductors
- to publish notes and educational material for choirs and orchestras
- to arrange festivals and events relating to choir and orchestral music
- to publish Resonans, a quarterly magazine with emphasis on amateur music in Swedish speaking Finland
- to inform members about activities surrounding the organization
- to represent the Swedish amateur field of music in Finland nationally and internationally
Members of the FSSMF are
- 48 mixed choirs
- 26 male choirs
- 28 female choirs
- 104 children's and youth choirs
- 12 brass orchestras
- 6 string orchestras
The office of the FSSMF is situated in Vaasa on the west coast of Finland. The staff consists of Secretary General Mr Toni Sjöblom, Organization Secretary Mr Ari Sundberg, Editor Ms Anne Sjökvist and Administrative Manager Ms Christine Hisinger.
